Learning the Letter D

ACTION ZONE

  • Take the letter (D) and Drop it, Dry it, put it Down, Drag it, make it Disappear, Dip it, and Dance around it.
  • Play “I Spy” looking for objects in the room beginning with (D).
  • Play “Doggie, Doggie Where’s Your Bone?” 
  • Do some Dancing.
  • Play “Duck, Duck Goose”.
  • Play “Pin the Tail on the Donkey”.
  • Practice following Directions. Give Learners several Duties to Do.
  • March around the room while playing the Drums.
  • Dig in the Dirt.
  • Play “Dodge Ball”. 

PROJECT ZONE

  • Sponge-paint with a (D) sponge or items beginning with (D). 
  • Finger-paint the letters A - D.
  • Cover the letter (D) with Dirt, Dimes, Dog stickers, etc.  Use sidewalk chalk to write the letter (D).
  • Make a (D) collage by cutting the letter (D) and items beginning with (D) from magazines and then gluing them to construction paper to make a collage.
Dalmatian Dog
  • Supply Learners with a handout of a Dog to color and cover with Dots (color-coding labels).
  • Learners can also glue wiggle eyes and attach yarn or pompoms for the Dog’s tail.
Sewing Cards
  • Supply Learners with the letter (D) cut from card stock.
  • Punch holes around the edges of the letter and thread in and out of the holes with yarn.
  • Wrap a piece of tape around one end of the yarn to simplify threading.
